We have been notified by the Florida State Department of Education that the paper/pencil versions of the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) are no longer being offered. Florida law requires that teachers demonstrate mastery of basic skills, professional knowledge and specialization. FTCE has three required sections: General Knowledge, Subject Area and Professional Education. FELE is for individuals interested in seeking certification in Educational Leadership.
Consult your academic advisor or a certification specialist from the school district in the county where you want to teach, or access the website for the Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of Educator Certification at www.fldoe.org/edcert for testing requirements.
Northwest Florida State College offers several review classes for the Florida Teacher Certification Exams. These classes are non-credit and are open to anyone who is interested in preparing for the General Knowledge Exam or the elementary education K-6 exam. Pre-registration is required for these courses.
