Open House

Open House 2014Northwest Florida State College (NWF State College) will host a Community Open House on the college's main campus in Niceville from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on President's Day, Monday, February 17th. The Open House will feature the entire campus and a host of free activities, tours, faculty seminars, program demonstrations, art exhibits, and more. There will also be door prizes*, including a Nook HD+ and college gift-baskets for members of the public who register at one of three door prize locations- the main lobby of the Student Services Center, the Activities Center or the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. 

An opening reception will be held in the courtyard at the east end of the Student Services Center at 10:00 am to recognize the President's Day holiday and the College's 50th Anniversary. 


The Community Open House will be followed by a "Pack the Arena" night for the Raider Men's and Women's Basketball teams who will be hosting Gulf Coast on Wednesday, February 19th. The first 200 Community House participants will receive a voucher to attend the "Pack the Arena" event for free. These voucher's will be available at the information table located in the Student Services Center.

Some of the unique activities offered as part of the Open House include fire tower and vehicle burns with firefighting demonstrations by the college's Fire Science program; 15 intriguing faculty seminars on everything from fossils to philosophy and career change to climate change; free portrait photography by Graphic Design students for adults over age 17; demonstrations by Nursing students of the college's state-of-the art patient simulators; and a Humanities lecture that includes a film screening. College staff in Admissions, Financial Aid, Advising, Veteran's Affairs, the Career Center, Professional and Continuing Education and more will also be on hand at the event. 

The Open House extends to many areas of the 265-acre Niceville campus that are normally closed to the public; including public tours of the Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center, which moved to state-of-the-art facilities at NWF State College in 2011, the college's observatory, and more. College performing arts groups will present open rehearsals throughout the Open House at the college's Mattie Kelly Arts Center. These continuous "drop in" performances are on-going from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and feature the Madrigal Singers, dance line, and more.

It is recommended the public enter the event at one of three locations- the main lobby of the Student Services Center, the Activities Center or the Mattie Kelly Arts Center to pick up an event schedule or register for door prizes.

*College employees and event volunteers are not eligible for Open House door prizes. Community members do not need to be present to win. No purchase necessary.
