Okaloosa-Walton College Begins New 4-Day Summer Work/Services Week June 2

Classes and most college services will begin a 4-day week at Okaloosa-Walton College starting June 2 for the months of June and July. The college's summer classes have traditionally not been scheduled on Fridays, but OWC is now extending its business hours on Monday to Thursday for two months in order to close on Fridays and give most employees a 4-day work week as well.

"With the price of gas and the fact that we already had a 4-day week for students during summer term, we really felt it was the right thing to try this summer," said Dr. Bob Richburg, OWC President, who noted that the expanded business hours from 7:30 am to 6:00 p.m. on Monday to Thursday will provide more hours for services such as registration, advising and financial aid for students who attend late afternoon or evening classes. Richburg also noted that the college might experience some utilities energy savings from the shortened week.

The business hours at five of OWC's six locations; the OWC Niceville Campus, the OWC/UWF Ft. Walton Beach Campus, the OWC Robert L. F. Sikes Center in Crestview, the OWC Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs and the OWC Hurlburt Field Center, will be Monday to Thursday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and closed on Friday from June 2 to August 1. Certain services such as the colleges Box Office at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center and the Niceville campus Learning Resources Center will maintain their regular hours and will be continue to be open on Fridays as these offices serve more of the general public. The college's center at Eglin Air Force Base will also continue Friday hours.
