Raiders are FCCAA State Champs!
03/11/2010 — Congrats to the Raider Men's Basketball for defeating TCC on Saturday at Chipola.We are now FCCAA State Chapions! Raiders play the 1st game in the NJCAA National Tournament on Tuesday, March 16 at 10am, and the game can be seen live on psblive.com, hope you will watch.
SGA Spring Fling: Food and Fun
03/04/2010 — Join your SGA next Wednesday, March 10 for the annual NWFSC Spring Fling. This year’s theme – Field Day. From 12:00 – 1:00 students may participate in field day games such as a Three Legged Race and Tug O War. ROTC also plans to participate by bringing back their wildly popular Rock Wall. Follow the grill smoke to Building K. Lunch begins at 10:45 and lasts until all the food is gone! Everything is FREE for students!! So come meet your SGA Representatives, have some food, and join in on the fun.
NWFSC Film Club : The Hurt Locker
03/04/2010 — The NWFSC Film Club is excited to announce their screening of The Hurt Locker (2009) on Monday, March 8 in J-328. It appears to be the front runner for Best Picture at the Academy Awards (which are Sunday, March 7th.) It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow; if she wins the award for Best Director, she will be the first female in the history of the Oscars to do so. The film is about an American E.O.D. team that works to defuse bombs during the Iraq War. It is rated R for graphic violence and language. Doors open at 5:30 for introductions and the selection of the next film. The screening will be about 6:00pm, with a discussion to follow. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Presidential Candidate Student/Community Forums:
03/03/2010 — Board of Trustees Chairman Wesley Wilkerson recently announced the three finalists in the colleges Presidential Search. Their campus visits on Monday March 8, Wednesday March 10 and Friday March 19 offer important times for NWFSC students and community to meet and interact with each finalist prior to their formal interview by our Board of Trustees. Students are strongly encouraged to attend one of the forums noted below.
The open forum and reception are available to everyone: members of the community, college staff, or students. The open forum will be taped and posted on the colleges presidential search web site www.nwfsc.edu/presidentialsearch following the final interview. Please note that the presidential search web site currently features photos, bios, and resumes of each candidate. NWFSC Forensics Team Scores High at FCCAA State Championship Tournament
02/26/2010 — The Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) Forensics Team competed in the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) State Championship Tournament at Tallahassee Community College 18, 19, & 20 February 2010. Our five member team competed in 22 individual speaking events, plus Parliamentary Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Given the high level of competition at the tournament, taking any of the top six positions in an individual event was quite a feat. Our team scored very high in numerous events: Kristen Chavis (Niceville) placed 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 5th in Parliamentary Debate, and 6th in After-Dinner Speaking. Megan Fontaine (Niceville) took 2nd in Communication Analysis, 2nd in Persuasive Speaking, 4th in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 5th in Parliamentary Debate, 5th in Informative Speaking, and 6th in Prose. Danielle Gadsden (Ft. Walton Beach) scored 2nd in Poetry and 5th in Communication Analysis. Samantha Sementilli (Niceville) placed 3rd in Communication Analysis, 5th in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and 6th in Persuasive Speaking. Thomas Wyrick (Destin) took 2nd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Congratulations to our NWFSC Forensics Team for a superb performance all year. Cecil Scalf Named FCCAA Forensics Coach of the Year
02/26/2010 — Cecil Scalf, Forensics Coach for Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC), was voted as Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) Forensics Coach of the Year. At the 2010 FCCAA Forensics State Championship Tournament (Feb 17 20, Tallahassee), statewide forensics coaches, by secret ballot, voted Scalf as the Forensics Coach of the Year. Scalf has served as NWFSC Forensics Coach since 2007.
