Your F-1 student status permits you to work on campus at the college while you are enrolled in a full course of study. Your NWFSC I-20 is your proof of work eligibility for part-time on-campus employment at NWFSC only. Pre-approval from a DSO is not required for part-time on-campus employment. You must maintain F-1 status to be eligible for this employment benefit; maintaining status means that you are a full-time registered student (except for approved exceptions) in good academic standing with a valid I-20.

  • Academic Support Services Tutor, Testing Center Staff Assistant, Raider Central Staff Assistant
• Work performed in a campus location for a commercial firm providing direct services to students

• Part-time (20 hours per week or less) during regular full-time semesters
• Full-time (more than 20 hours per week) between semesters
• Full-time (more than 20 hours per week) during your annual vacation

Expiration of On-Campus Employment Eligibility

Your on-campus employment eligibility ends:

• When you graduate. It expires the last day of your final semester, even if your I-20 expiration date is in the future.
• If you transfer to another school; your work authorization expires on the day of your SEVIS record release date.
• If you violate your F-1 status.

It is your responsibility to research and understand your on-campus work eligibility. It is generally not the job of NWFSC staff outside of DSOs to thoroughly know the immigration regulations. It is possible you will be offered employment that you are not eligible to accept or for your employment eligibility to expire without your employer notifying you. Be sure to contact a DSO if you have any concerns or questions.

Yes. You must meet in person with one of two designated school officials: Ms. Heather Dietzold, dietzolh@nwfsc.edu. These individuals will review your course schedule, confirm with SEVIS your arrival on campus, and go over other important information regarding maintaining your status as an F1 Visa holder while in the US. Failure to report to one of these individuals prior to the start of classes will result in the termination of your I-20.

No. NWFSC does not currently offer on-campus housing, nor are we able to accommodate off-campus housing requests or assistance. All international students are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation options prior to arrival in the United States. Here are some important things to consider when searching for housing options:

• Most leasing/rental companies will require a criminal background check and, therefore, ask you for some personal information before agreeing to rent or lease a property to you.
• If you do not have a United States Social Security Number or credit score, some leasing/rental companies will require that you provide 2-3 times the standard deposit for a property and may ask to see proof of funds.
• Some companies may ask for a copy of your F-1 visa and/or admission letter from NWFSC.
• NWFSC is located in an area that sees a lot of tourism, so plan ahead as certain properties may be booked far in advance.
• BE SAFE! Do not work with companies that do not have websites. Check online property reviews and crime reports. Do not be afraid to ask questions before signing a lease agreement.
• Prices will vary based on location and size of property.
• Most companies will require you to sign a 12-month lease or rental agreement. This is standard.

All F1 Visa holders are permitted to enter the US no sooner than 30 days prior to the start of classes for their first semester.

A Form I-20 is an official US Immigration document that will be provided to you after completion of all the admission requirements for international students. You may use the information contained on the digital copy to schedule your interview, but you will need the signed, paper copy of your I-20 before you go to a US Embassy or Consulate for your visa interview.
