Scholarships generally do not have to be repaid. Be aware of any stipulations or contract agreements that your scholarship requires. Such assistance is provided by or through federal and state agencies, foundations, corporations, private donors, and Northwest Florida State College.

 


 

NWF State College Foundation Scholarships

Apply online between February 1, 2016 and April 30, 2016.

The Northwest Florida State College Foundation offers more than three hundred scholarship awards annually to students who attend Northwest Florida State College. Opportunities are based on:

  • Academic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Diverse and unique backgrounds
  • Specific major and career choices
  • Disabilities
  • Community service

Awards provide scholarship support for tuition and books. Only one Foundation Scholarship may be awarded to a student. Awards are non-transferable. Applications for Foundation scholarships are available online during the spring term for the following academic year. Applicants need only complete one Foundation scholarship application to be considered for all appropriate Foundation scholarships.

Scholarship Selection

The Foundation Scholarship Committee will review and select Scholarship recipients. Initial notification on Intent to Award will begin in May 2016 through NWF State College student E-Mail only. Be sure to check weekly in your spam email box on both your forwarded email account and college email account for a notification. Many students forfeit their scholarship by not returning their signed contract and thank you letter in the time allotted.

 

Checklist for Scholarship Consideration

  • Complete Admissions to Northwest Florida State College
  • Complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2016-2017 at fafsa.ed.gov
  • Complete and Submit Academic Works Scholarship Application
    • Students must answer the short essay questions
    • Students must apply for each recommended scholarship individually at the end of the Academic Works application

Note:  About 75% of the scholarships will be "auto-matched" based on your inputted information and data from the NWF State College Student system. Be sure your Applicant Record tab on the General Application shows your correct data, including the county where you reside. Not checking this could make your application ineligible for many of the "auto-matched" scholarships.

Pacesetters Scholarship

The Pacesetters Scholarship has been established to assist African-American males who graduated from Okaloosa and Walton County schools and have not ever been a college student. Five $1,000 awards shall be made to students selected for this program.

Student Ambassador Scholarship

To support outstanding students; Students will be selected by the coordinator of Recruitment and the Faculty Advisor for this program based on a written application and interview. Applications are available in the spring term each year. For more information contact the Office of Recruitment.

Forensics/Brain Bowl Team Scholarships

Recipients of these scholarships are selected by the college's Director of Student Life or his/her designee. Tuition and fees up to 20 credit hours per academic year may be awarded. Book costs are not included. Recipients are required to participate on the Forensics Team or Brain Bowl Team. Interested applicants should contact the Director of Student Life for application information.

NWF State College Scholarships

 

HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarships are awarded each year to the top-ranked students from the ten area high schools in Okaloosa County and Walton County. In the event the top-ranked students do not plan to attend Northwest Florida State College, then the scholarships are awarded to the next highest ranked. Check with your guidance counselor in January of your senior year to evaluate your eligibility.

 

MINORITY HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship is awarded each year from each of the ten area high schools in Okaloosa County and Walton County to the top academic non-Caucasian student who plans to attend Northwest Florida State College on a full-time basis. In the event the top-ranked student does not plan to attend Northwest Florida State College, then the scholarship is awarded to the next highest ranked. Check with your guidance counselor in January of your senior year to evaluate your eligibility.

 

SOUTH WALTON REGIONAL UTILITIES HONORS

Four $1000 scholarships are awarded each year to the top ranked students from South Walton High School that plans to attend Northwest Florida State College on a full-time basis. Check with your guidance counselor in January of your senior year to evaluate your eligibility.

 

FINE & PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Auditions are held each spring by the Fine and Performing Arts Division Director. Scholarships are awarded in Show Choir, Orchestra, Theatre, Dance, Jazz Band, Visual Arts, and Madrigals. Scholarships are awarded to cover tuition and fees up to 30 credit hours per academic year. Book costs are not included. Interested applicants can view information posted on the Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship website Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts in January of each academic year.

 

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Recipients of these scholarships are selected by Northwest Florida State College Head Coaches in Men & Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball. Each scholarship provides full tuition, fees, and books. Awards for room and board may be included at the discretion of the Athletic Director. Interested applicants should contact the Athletic Office at the Niceville Campus for additional information. Each sport is supported with a one-semester, (10 credit hour per term), renewable, Manager Scholarship.

 

FORENSICS TEAM/BRAIN BOWL TEAM SCHOLARSHIPS

Recipients of these scholarships are selected by the college's Director of Student Life or his/her designee. Tuition and fees up to 20 credit hours per academic year may be awarded. Book costs are not included. Recipients are required to participate on the Forensics Team or Brain Bowl Team. Interested applicants should contact the Director of Student Life for application information.

 

AFRO-ACADEMIC, CULTURAL, TECHNOLOGICAL, AND SCIENTIFIC OLYMPICS (ACT-SO)

In recognition of outstanding achievement, a two-year scholarship (40 in-state credits) will be awarded to each student from the Northwest Florida State College District who places first (gold medal winners) in four academic disciplines: Sciences, Humanities, Performing, and Visual Arts, in the competition of the Okaloosa County ACT-SO Branch hosted each year.

 

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

The students elected to serve as President and Vice President of the Student Government Association receive a scholarship while they are in office. The scholarship covers up to 20 credit hours of tuition fees per academic year. Book costs are not included. For information on the college's Student Government Association contact the Student Life Office.

 

REGIONAL STATE SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS/ALL-FLORIDA CHEMATHON EXAM

In recognition of outstanding achievement, a two-year scholarship (up to 20 in-state credits per year) will be awarded to each student from the Northwest Florida State College district that places first in any senior category competition for the Annual East Panhandle Regional Science and Engineering Fair in January each year.

 

CHEERLEADER SCHOLARSHIPS

The college Athletic Director and/or his designee will select recipients. Awards will only be offered during the spring term and individual student awards will not exceed the cost of 12 in-state credit hours. Interested applicants should contact the Athletic Director at the Niceville Campus.

PRIVATE DONOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Private Donor scholarships are funds given by an agency external to NWF State College. This includes the Air Force Aid Society Grant and any scholarships students apply for off campus.
