Comprehensive Testing Services Available to the Community
Purpose
As a member of the Florida Association of College Testing Administrators (FACTA), NWFSC offers comprehensive testing services for students and the community. These testing services include college admission tests, placement tests, proctored exams, certification exams, and college credit exams.
Scheduling and Testing Requirements
Exams at the Niceville campus, Fort Walton Beach campus, Robert L.F. Sikes Education Center (Crestview), and Chautauqua Center (DeFuniak Springs) may be scheduled via RegisterBlast using the links provided on this page. For testing at our other locations, please contact the center or campus at your desired location.
Below, you’ll find a listing of available exams, their respective schedules, and locations. Appointments are required to test, and all candidates must provide a valid ID. No backpacks, cell phones, purses, food, drink, or other materials are permitted in the testing room. All testing fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Understanding Your Placement Scores
College Admissions
The SAT and ACT are nationally recognized standardized tests used for college admissions. Students purchase test tickets for the SAT and ACT on the College Board (SAT) and ACT websites.
Students must check their test ticket for information on testing location and other important test-related information.

About the Test
The Accuplacer’s Advanced Algebra Functions exam (AAF) is used for higher level math placement for students enrolling at Northwest Florida State College. Students are allowed one opportunity to test. In order to take the AAF, the student must not have previously taken any advanced algebra functions courses and also show requisite placement scores in one of the following:
- PERT Math: 133
- ACT Math: 21
- SAT Math Score: 26
The Accuplacer exam is also available for non-students with a valid voucher from their institution or advisor. Please work with your advisor to request the required voucher and schedule a test online.

Classic Learning Test (CLT)
About the Test
The CLT serves as an alternative to the SAT or ACT. While all three exams evaluate English, grammar, and mathematical skills, the CLT distinguishes itself by grounding its assessments in foundational readings from the Western Canon or Great Books curriculum.

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT)
About the Test
Northwest Florida State College currently uses the PERT for initial course placement. Prospective postsecondary students and those interested in dual enrollment or Collegiate High School courses must complete the PERT before registering for the upcoming term.
The PERT test is an adaptive test, meaning each new question is chosen based on the response to the previous question. It is comprised of three sections: Reading, Writing (English), and Math. There are 30 questions per subtest and the test is untimed.
Additional information on the PERT:
- The student’s scores determine appropriate course placement
- On average it takes 1 hour to complete a subtest or 3 hours to sit for the entire test
- Students will receive a printout of their score(s) upon completion
- PERT scores are valid for two years
- Retakes are allowed after seven days and remediation. Effective July 1, 2019, there is a $10 PERT retest fee.
- Pert can be taken remotely or in-person. Reference the PERT Fee Chart for a breakdown of remote testing and retest fees.

Exemption Requirements
Students exempt from taking the PERT must meet one of the following criteria:
- Entered a Florida public or charter high school in the 2003-2004 school year and thereafter and graduated beginning 2007 and thereafter with a Florida standard high school diploma.
- Are serving as an active duty member of any branch of the U.S. Armed Services.
- Have test scores (ACT, SAT, CPT or PERT) that are less than two years old from date test was taken and scores meet the state-designated minimums for college-level English and Mathematics courses.
- Have successfully completed college preparatory or developmental education course requirements in English, Reading, and Mathematics.
- Provide proof of successful completion of college-level English and Mathematics courses from a regionally accredited college or university.

Program Admission Testing
Program admission testing is required for entry into a college selective admissions program.
The Test of Essential Academic Skills is used to assess student readiness for a profession in the health sciences. It is generally used as part of the admission requirements for nursing or allied health schools. This assessment is now in use for entrance into all ADN Nursing programs at Northwest Florida State College.
For additional test information and prep materials visit ATI Testing. Candidates must schedule their test date, pay their sitting fee and also create an ATI account in advance. On the day of the exam, the candidate will purchase their test in the testing center.

Placement Tests
Placement tests are used to assess students’ skill levels in core subjects in order to ensure college readiness.

Credit By Exam
These exams allow you to earn college credit for what you already know.
Credit by Exam
CLEP exams are a convenient way for students to demonstrate mastery of introductory college-level material in order to earn college credit. There are currently 33 exams to choose from. Please visit College Board’s Exams page for a current list of CLEP exams.
We recommend that students meet with their advisor prior to registering for a CLEP exam to ensure that this is an appropriate option as each institution has their own CLEP policy. Students who wish to retest for a CLEP exam can do so after 3 months.
How to register to take a CLEP exam:
- Go to College Board to register and purchase a ticket for the CLEP exam.
- Maintain a copy of your purchased CLEP ticket to bring with you on test day.
- Register and pay for an appointment to take the CLEP exam at NWF State College.
- Bring a valid government issued ID and the CLEP ticket with you on exam day.
For Active Duty Military
CLEP exams for active duty are funded through DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support). Active Duty Military are eligible to sit and take CLEP exams for free at our Hurlburt AFB testing location.
This is a free one-time opportunity to test per subject, with no sitting or administrative fee. If the tester does not pass on the first attempt, there is a 3-month wait period to retest at the regular price.
Practice Test Resources
DSST are college level subject exams that allow a student to earn credit for knowledge acquired in non-traditional environments. Currently over 1900 institutions accept passing DSST scores as college credit.
With over 35 exams to choose from in both upper and lower level courses, DSST exams cover the following subject areas: business, humanities, math, science, social studies, and technology. Students can visit Get College Credit for an updated list of DSST exams currently offered.
Students who wish to retest on a DSST exam can do so after 1 month.
For Active Duty Military:
DSST Exams are funded through DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support). Active Duty Military are eligible to sit and take DSST exams for free at Hurlburt AFB.
This is a free one-time opportunity to test per subject. If the tester does not pass on the first attempt, they will have to wait no less than 1 month to retest at the regular price.

Military Testing Information
This section includes the testing locations for select military education centers in our area.
Hurlburt Field Center
Call (850) 200-4190 for more information about testing. All testing is located in Room B, Building 90220 and requires an ID at the testing door. Testing at the Hurlburt Field location is for adults only, and you must have base access to attend a testing session.

Northwest Florida State College offers proctoring services for other institutions and agencies. Follow the instructions on the third party proctor form and schedule an appointment at RegisterBlast
Proctored exams for NWFSC students
NWFSC students who need to take a makeup exam and have permission from their professor to test in our testing center must register online at RegisterBlast. Tests must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
The professor must be notified of the scheduled day and time once the student is registered for an exam. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the test is delivered to the Testing Center by test day. Students should allow for sufficient time to test, as indicated by their professor, in order to complete their exam prior to Test Center closing.
Test administrators strictly adhere to the professor’s instructions and deadline dates. Test administrators are not responsible for transferring classroom materials, homework assignments, projects, etc., from the students to professor and vice versa.
Faculty Resources
NWFSC faculty should submit a Faculty Proctor Form for students needing to complete an assignment in a proctored environment.
Faculty members may upload or manage test submissions by logging into RegisterBlast.
Northwest Florida State College offers proctored exams to be taken in our testing center through SmarterProctoring. Please follow the link below for instructions on how to schedule and pay for an appointment to test at our school.
Students who are approved for testing accommodations through the Accommodation Resource Center can request a testing appointment at the Niceville campus by registering for an exam via RegisterBlast. A confirmation email containing your requested appointment day and time will be sent to you within 24 hours.
Space is limited, so students should provide five (5) days advance notice for testing accommodations. Come to the Testing Center, building 500, room 105, on the day of your exam and arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time with ALL materials that your professor allows you to use during the exam.

What to bring

Manufacturing Skills Standard Council (MSSC)
The Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) is the leading certifying body for the nation’s front-line manufacturing production and supply chain logistics technicians. MSSC currently has two certification programs, the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) and the Certified Production Technician (CPT).
The CLT program consists of two parts: The foundational-level Certified Logistics Associate Certificate (CLA) and the mid-level technical CLT Certification. Before sitting for the CLT assessment, candidates must have a CLA Certificate.

Chautauqua Testing Center hours are 8 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.

Fort Walton Beach Campus

PERT, DSST and CLEP testing is available. No appointment necessary, but base access is required and applicable testing fees may apply.
