Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition
The Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition is held annually in spring semester. Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional for the Arnie Hart show, and this year’s field of applicants promises a competitive selection process and an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. This past year more than 140 entrants showcased work in drawing, painting, pottery and 3-D genres. Some of these students earned awards and were selected for inclusion in the art section of the college literary journal The Blackwater Review.

Blackwater Review: A Journal of Literature Art
Blackwater Review aims to encourage student writing, student art, and intellectual and creative life at Northwest Florida State College by providing a showcase for meritorious work. Blackwater Review is published annually at Northwest Florida State College and is funded by the college. Individuals interested in submitted their work can do so by visiting the Blackwater Review submission page. The annual deadline to submit works for consideration is January 31. The most recent issue of Blackwater Review can be purchased at the Barnes and Noble campus bookstore.
Institute for Senior Professionals
The Institute for Senior Professionals is a College-supported independent group of substantially retired citizens who wish to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their public and private careers for the benefit of non-profit and government entities in our greater Okaloosa-Walton community. They are “giving back” through voluntary uncompensated advisory assistance to organizations whose missions are dedicated to the public interest.
The College established the Institute almost 25 years ago. Its contributions to education, economic development, charitable causes, public welfare, and government are chronicled in the studies and reports listed in the ISP web site and in the activities pursued by its various committees. Membership in ISP is by invitation to candidates who have demonstrated understanding of the ISP mission and their preparedness to support it.
Anyone seeking to share talents which may be wasting on the shelf is encouraged to look into the Institute as a prospective source of long-term stimulation, mutual reward, and personal satisfaction.

Mary Lou O’Connor Child Development and Education Center
Providing quality care and education for children ages 2 years, 6 months – 5 years, NWF State College’s Mary Lou O’Connor Child Development and Education Center offers parents who are students, staff, and faculty (and community members on a space available basis) comprehensive and accessible care for their children. The center, open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. is accredited by the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and provides a perfect training site for early childhood education students.
Math Bowl
For more than 30 years, the Mathematics department has hosted the regional Math Bowl competition for high school students throughout the Florida Panhandle. The mission of the Math Bowl is to provide a rewarding opportunity for High School students to develop their mathematical competency and to show their skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork as they compete against students from schools of comparable size in a refereed scholastic forum.
NWF Reads
NWF Reads is a popular community event that invites students and the public alike to a week long series of reading events. From book readings, to guest author Q&A’s, to fun contests, this event features a variety ways for you to enjoy.

Science Seminars
The Science Department hosts Science Fridays, a monthly seminar series open to the public. The series covers a range of science topics and is scheduled for the third Friday of every month, from 11:00am – 12:00pm in room S-110 on the Niceville Campus. We wish to encourage communication between our own science faculty and the community — particularly local high school and NWF State College students. Student Life
Student Life promotes NWF State College’s vision by engaging students socially and providing opportunities for learning, leadership, service, and fun. This campus program encompasses all student activities, including the Student Government Association and student clubs and organizations.
