Northwest Florida State College announces interim president
The Board of Trustees for Northwest Florida State College announced Tuesday that Dr. Sasha Jarrell will serve as interim president until a new college president is selected. Dr. Jarrell’s appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2016.
Dr. Jarrell currently serves as the Vice President of Academic Affairs for NWF State College.
In announcing her appointment, Brian Pennington, chairman of the NWF State College Board of Trustees, noted Dr. Jarrell’s experience as an executive-level administrator at NWF State College as well as her experience as chair of the mathematics department and a faculty member at NWF State College.
"We appreciate Dr. Jarrell’s willingness to serve NWF State College as its interim president,” said Pennington. “She will provide what this college needs as it moves forward and we have complete confidence in her ability to provide quality, dependable leadership to the college during this transitional period."
Jarrell began her higher education administration pursuit as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Applied Discrete Mathematics at Auburn University. After graduating with her Ph.D. from Auburn University, she served as an assistant professor in the department of mathematics and statistics at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. Jarrell first came to NWF State College as a lead faculty member in the department of mathematics in 2006.
Jarrell’s appointment comes on the heels of Dr. Ty Handy’s resignation as NWF State College president after five years at the college. RPA Inc. has been retained by the NWF State College Board of Trustees to assist with the search.
