NWF State College Annual Student Awards

NICEVILLE---Northwest Florida State College recently held its annual Student Awards Day. Those recognized for student achievement for the 2011-2012 academic year include:

Gold Scholar Award for the 2012 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team - Kimberly Greene of Niceville. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $187,500 in scholarships annually. Gold Scholars each receive a $1,500 scholarship, a special medallion, and were listed in an April 23rd issue of the USA TODAY newspaper. An independent panel of judges considers outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service in the selection process.

James and Christian LaRoche Memorial Poetry Contest Award - 1st place – Madelyn Mancera of Niceville, 2nd place – Selyna Moczary of Crestview and Emily Heasley of Mary Esther. The late Christian LaRoche of Niceville instituted the James N. LaRoche Memorial Poetry Contest in 1986 to honor her late husband, who was a poet and an instructor at NWFSC from 1968-1983.
