Presidential Search Timeline

September 15

Special meeting of Board of Trustees to review proposed search timeline, the Charge to and Code of Ethics for the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC).

September 25

PSAC meets with Academic Search Consultant (ASC) to organize search process.

September 30 – October 2

ASC conducts pre-search study.

October 12

PSAC meets with ASC to consider adoption of recommended institutional and presidential profiles and position vacancy advertisement.  Board of Trustees meets on October 13 to consider PSAC recommendations.

October 15

Approved profile, prospectus and advertisement posted on AS and NWFSC websites.  Advertisements placed in selected publications. Formal recruitment of candidates begins.

December 4

Deadline for applications to be guaranteed consideration.

December 4

ASC conducts PSAC workshop on the application evaluation process.  PSAC begins online evaluation of applications.

January 8

PSAC selects 15(+/-) applicants for checking of references submitted with application.

January

ASC secures permission from candidates to conduct reference checks.  AS notifies candidates who are no longer being considered.

January 25

PSAC reviews findings from reference checks and selects candidates (8+/-) for interviews

February (mid)

ASC contacts candidates selected for interviews and secures permission to conduct reference checks with individuals not submitted by candidates.  ASC notifies candidates who are not being advanced to the next stage of the search.

February (late)

PSAC conducts interviews. PSAC deliberates the qualifications and all findings, including interview results and selects finalists (minimum of three, preferably no more than five) for on-campus interviews.  ASC secures written permission from finalists to conduct background checks including verification of degrees, driving record, legal history including possible criminal violations and credit history.

March (early)

PSAC Chair invites finalists for on-campus interviews.

March (mid – late)

On-campus interviews of finalists by internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, are conducted. Interview evaluations are reviewed and summarized.

April (mid)

Chair, PSAC and ASC present findings to Board of Trustees.
Board considers finalists, reaches consensus and authorizes Board Chair to contact Board’s preferred candidate to confirm interest and initiate contract negotiations.
Subject to successful negotiations, Board meets to appoint college’s new president.

May

Transition period

No later than July 1

President-elect assumes the position of President.
