The Board of Trustees of Northwest Florida State College Name Presidential Nominee - Dr. Ty Handy Selected from Pool of 76 National Candidates

Dr. Ty Handy has been named by the Board of Trustees of Northwest Florida State College as the board's choice for the college's presidency.

Dr. Handy was chosen following a 6 month national search which attracted 76 candidates from 30 different states. Handy is a Florida native, born and raised in Apopka, Florida near Orlando and is currently the president of Vermont Technical College, a public associate and baccalaureate institution.

Dr. Handy and two other presidential finalists were recently interviewed in day-long sessions at the college's Niceville campus that included forums with faculty, students, college staff and members of the community as well as a formal interview with the college's governing board. Dr. Handy and other finalists also previously interviewed with a 14-member search advisory committee made up of community, faculty, staff and student representatives. Handy is slated to become the third president in the college's 46-year history. It is anticipated that the new president will assume the position no later than July 1, 2010.
