NICEVILLE, FL --- Wesley Wilkerson, (photo, left), chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northwest Florida State College, recently congratulated Dr. Ty Handy (photo, right) on his selection by the board to serve as the college's new president.

Dr. Handy recently signed a 3-year contract with the Board and will officially begin his duties June 21. "Having been a president or chancellor at two other institutions, Dr. Handy is ready to hit the ground running to serve this college and its students," noted Wilkerson, who explained that Dr. Handy plans to join the Trustees for their annual budget workshop in late May.

Dr. Handy was selected by the Board to lead the college following a six-month national search which attracted 76 candidates from 30 different states. Dr. Handy is a Florida native and is currently the president of Vermont Technical College, a public associate and baccalaureate institution. He also previously served as chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College in Southern Indiana, a comprehensive two year community and technical college in the Ivy Tech Community College System. Handy earned his doctorate (Ed.D.) degree from the University of Memphis in Higher Education Administration, the MBA in Accounting and Finance from Drexel University and a baccalaureate degree in finance from Western Kentucky University. Other academic positions Dr. Handy has held include vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas Community College - Batesville; dean of academic affairs at Elizabethtown Community College in Kentucky; and dean of business technologies/social sciences at Jefferson Community College, Ohio.

"We look forward to having Dr. Handy join the college family and our community as we work together to lead this dynamic college into the future," said Wilkerson. NWFSC annually serves more than 16,500 students at seven campuses and centers with instructional programs from adult education to bachelor's degrees.
