Northwest Florida State College is part of Florida's system of 28 public community colleges and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Northwest Florida State College courses are transferable nationwide. Within Florida, all public institutions have a common course numbering system for a seamless transfer of courses among schools.
Northwest Florida State College operates a full-time educational center at Hurlburt Field in the base education center. The Northwest Florida State College main campus is located in Niceville. A joint campus with the University of West Florida is located in Fort Walton Beach and Northwest Florida State College also operates centers in Crestview, DeFuniak Springs and South Walton.
The Hurlburt Center offers more than 50 college courses per term scheduled during the day, lunch hour, evening or on weekends. Distance learning by the Internet and other methods is also available. Northwest Florida State College locations offer nine terms per year, including six Fast-track mini-terms. As a Servicemembers Opportunity College, Northwest Florida State College allows degree completion through transferring courses back to Northwest Florida State College in the event of a PCS move. If a military student must go TDY during a college term, Northwest Florida State College will supply a full refund for course fees. Students may register for courses in-person or by Internet from any location worldwide. Northwest Florida State College has an open door admission policy and an average class size of just 20 students. The college enrolls more than 15,000 students annually.
