The Northwest Florida State College Board of Trustees has hired Dr. Thomas Delaino, who retired in 2008 as president of Pensacola Junior College, to serve as interim president of NWFSC starting December 1, 2009. Delaino will lead the college until the Trustees hire a new permanent president; a post for which NWFSC is currently conducting a nationwide search. Select the Presidential Search link for additional search information.

Dr. Jill White, the college's interim president since April 2008, will return to her role as the college's senior vice president and will serve in that role until her scheduled retirement February 28, 2010, following 13 years at the college and 42 years in education. In hiring Delaino to begin in December, trustees acted on a prior recommendation from Dr. White that there be overlap in service dates to provide continuity for college operations. White plans to continue teaching at the college as a part-time adjunct instructor in the NWFSC baccalaureate programs following her retirement.

Delaino's professional experience includes 32 years of increasingly responsible positions in the Florida community college system and six years as president of Pensacola Junior College. His background also includes more than six years in the Air Force, with command experience at Lackland Air Force Base and four years on the faculty at the Air Force Academy. Delaino is a Florida native who grew up in Cedar Key, the son of a commercial fisherman and a high school English teacher.
