Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) are norm-referenced tests designed to measure achievement of basic skills commonly found in adult basic education curricula and taught in instructional programs. The TABE will be administered, free of charge, to NWFSC students who are currently enrolled the Dental Assisting, Radiography, and Welding programs. The TABE will also be administered for students who choose to enroll in the NWFSC Firefighter Basic PSAV program (program code 5095).

There are eight TABE subtests offered: Reading, Language, Language Mechanics, Spelling, Vocabulary, Writing, Applied Math, and Math Computation. There are different requirements and combinations of the subtests needed for each examinee depending on their program, agency, or employer.

The TABE is also available for examinees requesting the test for employment consideration or for admission requirements to other institutions. The fee for these examinees is $20.00.
