Transcribed Text: FACULTY RESOURCE GUIDE State of Florida Law Impacting Instruction SB 266 (2023) Section 9 - Synopsis The bill specifies criteria for Ged Ed core courses, including high-level academic and critical thinking skills. It also mandates that courses must not distort historical events or teach identity politics. The bill also establishes principles, standards, and content for general education courses, emphasizing historically accurate and rigorous coursework. ASSIGNMENT IDEAS When conveying course content, faculty should present facts as outlined in primary sources and design assignments and activities that encourage and allow students to reach their own conclusions and develop their own perspectives. Consider guiding students through learning experiences that provide them the opportunity to do one or more of the following: → watch Ted Talks presenting opposing perspectives. → explore primary sources and give their perspectives/insights. → compare maps and other visuals that place works of literature and history in context. → discuss primary historical documents and other sources in peer pairs or groups. → participate in PBL peer groups to study a problem and reach solutions. → go on a WebQuest to find primary sources of information on a topic. → review data sets and identify trends. → locate online artifacts that place a work in its historical context/social environment. → interview people as primary sources and write a reflection on the interview. → engage in structured listening while watching a YouTube video or listening to a podcast and write a synopsis and/or personal response. → conduct research on multiple theories/perspectives individually or in groups and share their findings.
