Northwest Florida State College Celebrates Governor Rick Scott’s signing of the Military Tuition Assistance Bill

NICEVILLE- Northwest Florida State College is celebrating, with other members of the Florida College System (FCS), the unanimous passing of House Bill 75/Military Assistance Bill through the Florida House and Senate earlier this month, and the signing of the bill by Governor Rick Scott today.

This bill authorizes institutions to waive state fees for active duty service members using Military Tuition Assistance (MTA) at Florida College System (FCS) institutions such as NWF State.

“This is a historic day for Northwest Florida State College and our partner institutions,” said Dr. Devin Stephenson, President. “Fees that have held back military members from attending an FCS institution have now been removed. Through the tireless efforts of our Senator George Gainer and Representative Mel Ponder, we will be able to provide an affordable, quality education for members of our military. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to honor our military for their service to our country.”

Discontinued coverage of certain postsecondary fees by MTA are what led to the elimination of these fees by a number of higher education institutions for active duty military who use the financial assistance program.
