Two Northwest Florida State College Students Named Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholars

NICEVILLE, FL – Julianna Cannon and Matthew Nguyen, both involved with Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC), have been named Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholars for 2020.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation partnered with Phi Theta Kappa to bring the scholarship programs to PTK chapters across the nation. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs that promotes leadership, fellowship, service and scholarship. Eligibility for membership requires students to have completed at least 12 hours of associate degree coursework and keep a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
“Our Five-star Sigma Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa continues to encourage the best and brightest in our College to take their education to the highest level,” said Dr. Devin Stephenson, NWFSC president. “These two students are prime examples of what can be achieved with hard work and dedication to education.”
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each silver level scholar will receive a $1,250 scholarship and a commemorative medallion.
Students are nominated for the Coca-Cola academic teams by their college administrators and selection is based on academic achievement, leadership and engagement in college and community service.
Coca-Cola Academic Team members will be recognized in both local and statewide ceremonies and will also be recognized internationally during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst, April 2-4, at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
