Northwest Florida State College

MENUMENU

Free Tutoring

Northwest Florida State College is committed to student success and offers all its students free academic tutoring at various college locations in friendly, supportive environments. Many of our tutors are advanced students and graduates who have excelled in the subjects they tutor and who understand the stresses of college life; others have bachelor’s degrees and provide expert academic assistance for our most advanced classes. We work hard to match you with the best tutor to meet your needs. Visit us as soon as possible because our help is most effective when you visit us early in the semester and visit us regularly for continued tutoring. Appointments are highly encouraged, and can be made at any campus location.

Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center, newly relocated to the Learning Resources Center (Building 500), provides individual tutoring in most subjects.  We recommend appointments, but we also accept walk-ins. To set up an appointment, please call (850) 729-5389.

ASC tutors also serve students at Fort Walton Beach, Crestview, and DeFuniak locations.

ASC Tutoring Hours

Please note that the ASC is closed during all college-observed holidays.

Math Lab

The Math Lab offers a group setting for work on any math course; tutors are available and provide assistance, as needed.

No appointment is needed for this free tutoring service. Call (850) 729-4907 if you have any questions.

Tutoring FAQs

Tutoring

If you need help, simply come to the Academic Success Center in the Learning Resources Center (Building 500), located on the Niceville campus. We will show you around, set up appointments, introduce you to a tutor, and help guide you to success as a college student.

The Academic Success Center tries to offer tutoring in as many academic subjects as possible.  Tutors for most general education requirements and many specialized subjects will be available.  The kinds of tutoring offered and the hours tutors are available depends upon the demand each semester.  Listings of available tutors and the subjects they cover are regularly posted around NWF State College campuses. If you do not see what you need, let us know.  Our goal is to assist as many NWF students as we can.

The tutors at the ASC are dedicated to helping you develop the skills you need to pass your courses on your own. However, tutors will not do the work for you or contribute directly to your grades.

Each one-on-one tutoring session lasts 45 minutes. If students need additional time, they will be required to schedule another appointment.

All services offered by the Academic Success Center (ASC) are absolutely free of charge to any student registered at NWF State College. The free professional assistance available at the ASC could cost fifty dollars an hour or more elsewhere, but is absolutely free for students at NWF State College. It’s quite a deal!

To get the most out of the free tutoring offered, we recommend that students request appointment times.  Call 850-729-5389 or come by the Academic Success Center in the Learning Resources Center (Building 500) to make an appointment with a tutor.

Let us know the course number and name, your name, and your telephone number when requesting a tutor.  We will work with you to find the best mutual times for your appointments.

The center is open for more than sixty hours every week with day and evening hours.

Yes!  All NWF State students are provided 2 free hours of tutoring each semester through Smarthinking, an online tutoring service purchased by the campus. NWF students can access Smarthinking under “NWFSC Resources” in their online classrooms. If you need more than two hours, contact us at 850-729-5389.
